Particles of skin, shampoo, water with lime scale, soap etc, none of it rinsed off.
If they're vinyl curtains wash them in a washing mashine on a low temperature setting but don't dry them, just hang them to dry. They'll look milky at first but should soon look clean and clear (if they're transparent).
Not rinsed perfectly, but I do rinse them with the shower. Leaving them in the bath with the whirlpool cleaner in seems to clean them fairly well. (We hardly ever actually use the whirlpool thing - one day I'll get round to moving things around to put a plain bath where the basin is and a shower cubicle where the bath is.) That they don't get dried probably encourages mould compared with skin, but not having a self renewing surface might be the main difference.
