eBay, and folder fettling.
Jun. 24th, 2005 05:51 pmI bought a BMX bike at Milton tip the weekend before last, on the way to GK's party (I was passing on the way to buy some strawberries from the farm near there). I bought it for the front wheel since the one that was going to be for the hypothetical homebuilt recumbent is now on the folder, but it had a front sidepull brake that had enough reach for the folder (photo), so I moved the V-brake adapter thing to the rear (photo). The BMX bike had V-brakes at the rear which weren't long enough and had a broken spring tension adjustment, so I've borrowed some off
wings_of_wax's bike as a temporary measure.
The rear wheel is currently a singlespeed (off the Tag-a-long as it happens, because the BMX one needs trueing), waiting for me to rebuild the 3-speed hub into a 406 alloy rim. Or possibly buy one, and use the existing wheel to add gears to the Tag-a-long. Or possibly not bother, since it doesn't get used on hills.
An extra long reach rear caliper might be neater one day.
And I bought some XT V-brakes from eBay (my first eBay win) to upgrade the ones on my hybrid. The (lower spec - plain Deore) ones from Wiggle are still on order, but I'll find a use for them, between the folder and the recumbent, and the borrowed ones can go back once the existing basic ones on the hybrid are freed.
