Freebie digital camera
Mar. 25th, 2005 08:21 pmThe "free gift" I got for signing up for a Which Online free trial period arrived today, a 0.1Mpixel camera, like this. A litle bit bulkier than the one I got from Maplin a while back, but that one ate batteries even when turned off, didn't work in webcam mode (not that I wanted a webcam), and fairly quickly died altogether, waiting only long enough for me to mislay the receipt. This one still might do the same, but it's free (so long as I remember to cancel the Which subscription before the free trial ends).
I'm wondering what the range on the tiny radio controlled cars the boys got for Christmas is (the sort with two AA batteries in the base the car clips onto to charge a capacitor in the car), and thinking about kite aerial photography. The camera turns itself off fairly quickly, so I'd need to press the "on" button as well as the "shutter" remotely, but at least it comes up in the most useful mode first, unlike the Maplin one.
(A single-use APS would be as lightweight, but wouldn't allow the near immediate review of how well it worked. Much better picture quality when it did work though. A decent digital would be expensive enough to worry about (and possibly heavy enough to need a bigger kite than I have, though that would make it more stable).)
