Oct. 29th, 2004 10:10 pmBack from Wales with a box of Aran lamb from just down the road.
Monday - drove there with Frodo (the puppy) in the boot. Audi behaving well, idle even stable again - maybe it's the new plugs (Vindis cleaned the old one and recommended new ones (old ones weren't that old, but they did change the mixture and timing, maybe those being out had mucked up the plugs)). There was a tree down across the track again, so walked the last bit to the cottage to get the chainsaw.
Tuesday - Harlech beach (sunny). Frodo loved chasing a ball and running around. I and the boys flew a kite (parafoil, Aldi special from the week before my birthday - turns out to be quite good at single-handed recovery/relaunch from crashes). Lunch in Plas Cafe during pouring rain, which cleared up for visting the castle (me and boys, dogs not allowed so Alice took him for a walk in the wood). Heard about John Peel's death on the radio on the way home.
Wednesday - railway walk. Saw pair of Red Kites as we left the cottage, and something with pointier wings on the walk. Frodo started off needing to be lifted over stiles, but had mostly got the hang of them by the end of the walk. Surprised to find that one of the Bala butchers has a deli section with nice cheeses (and was open on Wednesday, early closing for most of the town).
Thursday - shopping (coal, mostly). Good view of a kite on the way back, flying quite low over the track ahead of us before heading off to the forest. Wood cutting and chopping. Read about Flores man.
Friday - walk in local woods, found quarry used for building forestry tracks - might be able to patch some of the worst holes with chippings next year, otherwise we're going to need a 4x4 or to come through the farm and walk across the last field.
Now to clean up the dried cat-sick on our bedroom carpet....
