Yesterday evening our tap water tasted revolting (I was told by Alice and Pam, I was collecting Sophie Fluffcat from my parents' house).
This morning she phoned them and they said they had lots of complaints about the taste, and it was the fault of our kettle (the kettle we have used without a taste problem for years) for plasticisers reacting with chlorine. It absolutely wasn't their fault for putting too much chlorine in, but they couldn't comment beyond that because they weren't responsible for our kettle. The fact that the cold water smelt strongly of chlorine was our fault too, for expecting the water to be drinkable straight out of the tap.
So I bought a filter jug this lunchtime, since getting mains water from a different supply isn't really an option. With a bit of shuffling of milk bottles it just about fits in the fridge door.

A lovely evening. It's not the first time I've cycled the whole 15 miles, but it's the first time this year. (The car is still at Nice's in Waterbeach, because I'd forgotten that Barry had said he'd got a big job already booked today so "after Easter" would have to be Wednesday.)
