I got fed up with the adverts, and don't think I'll miss the extra features - if I do, I'll go back to a paid account (though I'm tempted to upgrade my Flickr account to allow more sets - I ought to play with Fotopic and Picasa first though, and anyway my New Year resolution is supposed to be not spending money on things I don't need have a good excuse for, even really cheap things).

I'm finding Flickr a lot easier to use than fotopic. Their paid accounts are a lot cheaper, too, at the cost of not being able to use their site as a gallery for selling prints & stuff (but, did I mention that fotopic suck?).

Ah. I did notice you had changed and meant to ask why.
unlimited number of "collections" was the main attraction.

Don't get me wrong, their basic photo hosting is plausible, if clunky. Uploading is faffy; you have to use unencrypted FTP if you want to bulk upload. (Flickr Uploadr FTW.)

They have a moderately annoying feature whereby new collections are often automatically referred for manual checking for T&C compliance, with a probability starting at 0.75 and which decreases as you upload more.

My beef is with their print shop customer service, which was utterly abominable, albeit given a sample size of 1. Next time I'm using a shop to have prints made.
