20 years on, and there are still Welsh hill farms that have to test their sheep for contamination. Moral: some nuclear power plants really do have to be designed as if Homer Simpson is the safety officer, "a bit dodgy but works if handled carefully" isn't good enough.
(Of course lots of people closer had much worse effects, even if not as bad as Greenpeace would like for scaremongering purposes.)

I've not checked recently, but pre-foot and mouth year, there were still sheep on the Cumbrian fells in the same position. I suspect the wholesale slaughter put paid to that problem--along with far too many sheep.

All nuclear plants need to designed as if the entire workforce (if not the entire population) were Homer Simpson with an added malicious streak.
