Jul. 6th, 2007 05:31 pmMore bamboo frame bikes - this time for local build in Africa
http://duck-rabbit.ldeo.columbia.edu/bamboo/Home.html
"Shipping bicycle component parts, as opposed to complete bikes, to Africa is easier and cheaper, because of their smaller size. A container could hold parts for ca. 4000 bicycles, whereas it would only hold ca. 500 complete bicycles."
[Though discussion elsewhere does point out that metal frames can be repaired using scrap metal frames more easily than bamboo can be held together with polyester resin soaked sisal if you don't have new polyester resin.]
And an African wind generator perched on a wooden tower: http://www.williamkamkwamba.typepad.com/
And I want one of these: http://gizmag.com/go/7586/. At least until I find out how much it costs, at which point I shall stop wanting one.
