Computer bits.

The heatsink fan on the graphics card on the downstairs machine was making a horrible noise a while back, so I bought a fanless heatsink with heatpipes. Far more than the card (a 5200) really needs, but (slightly) cheaper than a new card. (I also bought a slightly quieter power supply/CPU heatsink/case fan boxed set when they were on special offer a while back. It was cheap, and now the computer isn't on the landing it doesn't really matter if it's very quiet or not. I also was hoping the existing power supply might help the older (450MHz Slot 1 Pentium) motherboard work, but it didn't.)
This morning I bought a 5500 from Cantab Millenium (I was going to buy another 5200, but they were out of stock). The 5200 doesn't fit in the Aria with the new heatsink, so I'll put the 5500 in that (it's also fanless, but with a rather smaller heatsink).
I tried buying an LCD monitor from Aldi for Nana Pam on Thursday, but the warehouse didn't deliver any. They took my phone number and in theory will get back to me.

That's exactly the same heatsink [livejournal.com profile] lark_ascending bought for hers the other month. Really quite ridiculous, IMAO, but it was quite a fun jigsaw puzzle :-)
