On the radio this morning: Richard Clarke says the Bush administration wanted to bomb Iraq after 9/11. "But Iraq has nothing to do with the attack, al-Qaeda are hiding in Afghanistan", he told them. "We know, but Iraq has much better targets."

Half-truth. Basic fact of the matter is that when 9/11 happened they didn't even have detailed *maps* for Afghanistan, far less a list of potential targets. Much embarrassment in US mapping agency! Then when they went in, the General had to say "Okay, give me whatever maps you can now, and then make them better as soon as you can."...

Of course the real irony was where they ended up buying some maps of Afghanistan from - the last country to try invading there... :-)
